Competency-based A.A.S. program aligned with NAEYC Standards for Associate Degree Programs. Prepares graduates for roles as classroom assistants in Head Start and Great Start School Readiness classrooms, child care center staff, family child care providers, and before/after school program workers. Requires 380 hours of practicum in an approved licensed program. Graduates must earn a minimum 2.0 in all ECE occupational specialty courses and 3.0 in ECED 205 Field Work. The program is accredited by NAEYC's Commission on Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs (2024–2031).
Prerequisites: A current Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry (CA/NR) clearance form obtained from the Michigan Department of Human Services must be presented at the first class meeting of all ECE classes and kept on file in the Fine Arts/Social Sciences division office, updated annually
