POLSC-1044 — Workplace Communications

This course develops essential written and verbal communication skills used in the police profession. Students learn to maintain a professional notebook, obtain admissible and warned statements, and apply best practices for interviewing and documenting cases, including applying a trauma-informed approach in cases involving Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). The course also provides experience with completing investigative and court disclosure reports, forms, and release documents. Students are introduced to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and strengthen their courtroom communication skills by preparing for and delivering testimony in a mock trial.
