This course is designed to provide learners with basic experience in transcribing a variety of medical reports. This course is applicable to the Medical Secretary diploma obtained through the Medical Support Services program. Learners will work to develop the production/transcribing rate of 25 to 30 dictated minutes of a variety of dictated reports per day. This course is offered as an OPEN course with the learner having 12 weeks (approximately 200 hours) from the date of registration to complete the activities. As an Open program, learners may complete this course at any time between September and May. Learners will need access to a computer with word processing capability and access to email for submission of materials. Students will need to come in to the HC library to check keys for transcribed materials. Production tests will be done at the end of the course at Charlottetown Centre. NOTE: Learners will complete a production assessments at the end of the course and provide 3 five minute timings demonstrating keyboarding competency over 55 wpm within 5 errors, backspace key allowed. PREREQUISITES: Medical Terminology, Word Processing, Keyboarding speed & accuracy (official of 45-50 wpm min.) and completion of secretary or medical clerk course strongly recommended.
