The learning experience will involve exploration of design, layout, cutting and joining of rough cut timber for a 12X20 picnic pavilon. Partici- pants will employ basic mortise and tenon joints as well as a variety of scarf joints, english ties joints, wedged and dovetailed connectors. If you've ever stood inside a long-abandoned 150 year old wooden home or barn, marveling at the fact it was still standing, and thought to yourself, "some day I'd like to build something like this." Someday may have arrived. This course will recall the methods and approaches used by your great grandfathers when they needed a structure to shelter and defy the elements in the mid 1800's. Mortise and Tenon, Pulins and Tie Joints, knee braces, wind braces, tie girts, and pegs with rough cut dimension timber will be the learning vehicle in this course. This will be a cooperative effort, resulting in a product you will be proud of, and will prepare you to goforward with the building of a Timber Frame structure for your own needs.
