Searching & Internet Tools - Participants will continue to explore the internet by being introduced to the many different ways to search for information. Topics covered will be the different search engines available, types of search engines, boolean operators, geneology searches, advanced search techniques, downloading and installing programs, zipping files, viruses and how to protect yourself against them, finding and installing useful browser plug-ins, and e-commerce. The participant should leave with more knowledge about the internet and useful concepts regarding transferring files, compressing data, virus protection and shopping online. Communicating Online - The object of this session is to instruct participants on how to use their computer as an effective means of communication. Topics covered today will be email (each participant will go through a registration process for a new web-based email account), logging into your email, sending multiple emails, sending file attachments, receiving and reading email, replying to email, creating an address book, and a glossary of common email terms. Once email is covered, Instant Messaging will be introduced. The participants should come away with new information regarding ways to communicate over the internet.
