This course equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to instruct law enforcement officers in the safe operation of emergency response vehicles. Participants learn to design and develop driver training courses tailored to the specific needs and challenges of their law enforcement agency, with a focus on legal obligations, policy, and safety. The course includes both classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driving practice. Participants learn to select and prepare suitable training sites and design courses using a variety of driving exercises. They must demonstrate above-average driving skills and the ability to apply adult learning principles to instruct and assess others in a moving vehicle environment. Additionally, participants learn to properly document driving tests and evaluations. The training also covers best practices for radio communications, pursuit and emergency driving, and high-risk vehicle stop techniques.
