This course provides Practical Nursing students with hands-on, skills-based learning experiences to complement the theory content of maternal-child nursing. Students will apply a family-centered approach while practicing essential nursing skills related to the care of childbearing women, newborns, andchildren from infancy through adolescence. Lab activities emphasize safe, developmentally appropriate care, effective communication with patients and families, and clinical decision-making within the scope of the practical nurse. Students will practice and demonstrate competencies including prenatal assessment, labor support techniques, postpartum care, newborn assessment and care, pediatric medication administration, and age-specific interventions. Simulation scenarios will reinforce nursing judgment, prioritization, and collaboration in caring for patients experiencing both typical and high-risk maternal and pediatric conditions.
