NURS1202 — Medical Surgical I Skills Lab

This course provides Practical Nursing students with hands-on, skills-based learning experiences to complement the theory content of second-semester medical-surgical nursing. Students will practice and demonstrate clinical competencies related to the care of adult patients in acute and sub-acute settings. Lab experiences emphasize safe and effective nursing interventions, communication, and critical thinking within the practical nurse’s scope of practice. Focus areas include surgical care, wound management, IV monitoring, tracheostomy and oxygen therapy, medication administration, and the recognition and reporting of changes in patient condition. Students will also engage in simulated scenarios to reinforce prioritization,collaboration with the healthcare team, and preparation for clinical placement. To progress in the program, the student must maintain a grade of C or better in Practical Nursing program courses. Concurrent: To be taken concurrently with NURS 1201 Medical-Surgical I Theory.
