This course is a survey of the outstanding authors and poets in the tradition of American literature. Special attention will be given to the social and intellectual backgrounds which were instrumental in shaping both the content and style employed by American writers from Franklin to the present. Frequent written response to the literature is expected. Meets the Humanities requirement. Prerequisite(s): Complete ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1010C with a grade of “C” or better
