This course is a survey of the development of British literature from Anglo-Saxon times through the 18th century, with attention to the historical background, the continuity of essential traditions, and the characteristic flavor of the other subsequent periods, and with a focus on the Western Canon. Critical essays and oral reports are assigned. You are required to demonstrate college-level English skills through multiple assignments and earn a grade of C or higher in this course.
