An emphasis is placed on epidemiology, population risk assessment, health promotion, risk reduction, chronic disease prevention, environmental health, vulnerable populations, contemporary health issues, and development of healthier individuals, aggregates and communities. The role of the professional nurse in the provision of community and population-based care is explored.
