GLY 2100C - Historical Geology with Lab GLY 2100C - Historical Geology with Lab This course is designed to meet the needs of students interested in exploring a career focusing on geology, paleontology, physical anthropology, and other sciences that require an understanding of the Earth’s history. Course content includes a study of rocks and minerals, geologic time, sedimentation principles, fossils, progression of life through time, deformation and metamorphism of rocks, mountain building and plate tectonics, paleoclimate and paleoenvironments, formation of natural resources, current geological activity and formation of the current geologic landscape. Emphasis is placed on scientific reasoning, precision, and practical application of knowledge and skills of geology. Laboratory activities will introduce methods used by scientists to interpret the history of life and major events in the physical development of Earth from rocks and fossils.
