An examination of cultural patterns in America from 1900-2000 with an emphasis on the texture of everyday life. The class includes an interdisciplinary study of American culture by way of an analysis of American arts and literature, including political systems; social issues; popular culture; material culture; race; religion and social change as expressed principally in literature but also music and film. This course satisfies the Gordon Rule writing requirement. A grade of "C" or higher must be attained. Students who are not required to take the common placement test or enroll in developmental education courses do not have to satisfy prerequisites.
