NMC's Astronomy program offers courses in Observational, Planetary, and Stellar Astronomy, held at the college's Rogers Observatory south of Traverse City. The observatory features a dome and indoor and outdoor telescopes, built to serve both astronomy classes and community education. The Grand Traverse Astronomical Society also conducts regular programs at the Observatory. Students planning to transfer toward a bachelor's degree are advised to supplement astronomy coursework with mathematics and physics.
