Anthropology at NMC explores humanity—how humans are alike, different, and shaped by society and culture. The program prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions pursuing degrees in anthropology or archaeology. NMC offers specialty courses in nautical and underwater archaeology, including fieldwork opportunities in the Great Lakes region and northwestern Michigan. Students use advanced technologies and study historical sites worldwide. The program supports careers in maritime industries, homeland security, underwater search and recovery, university research, commercial surveying, remote sensing, and cultural heritage development. Introduction to Cultural Anthropology is a required course for many areas of study.
