NUR4675 — RURAL NURSING: 3 Credits, 3 Hours

This course introduces the student to the role of the nurse in rural health. The rural environment and appropriate health care services and programs to meet the healthcare need of the rural population are emphasized. Topics covered include health risk, health promotion, economics, access to care and health practices of culturally diverse populations. Prerequisite: Students must have an Associate in Science-Registered Nurse degree which included theoretical instruction and clinical application in medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric nursing; personal, family, and community health concepts; pharmacology and administration of medications; legal aspects of practice; interpersonal relationships and leadership skills; professional role and function; health teaching and counseling skills; and clinical experience in acute care, long-term care, and community settings.
