NUR3805 — PROFESSIONAL ROLES: 3 Credits, 3 Hours

This course focuses on the transition of the RN student from an associate degree program to the role of the baccalaureate-nursing graduate. The course emphasizes the role and scope of professional nursing, as the course builds upon initial nursing education to prepare the student for a broader scope of practice. The course examines professional standards, attributes, ethical principles, and qualities that professional nurses need to become leaders in the complex global healthcare environment. Prerequisite: Students must have an Associate in Science-Registered Nurse degree which included theoretical instruction and clinical application in medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric nursing; personal, family, and community health concepts; pharmacology and administration of medications; legal aspects of practice; interpersonal relationships and leadership skills; professional role and function; health teaching and counseling skills; and clinical experience in acute care, long-term care, and community settings.
