NUR3082 — HISTORY, ISSUES AND TRENDS: 2 Credits, 2 Hours

This course examines the philosophy of the nursing program and the philosophical and theoretical foundations of nursing. The course focuses on the role of the professional nurse and the impact of the nursing profession to society. The course examines historical and contemporary issues and trends related to nursing and provide an overview of the influence of the nursing profession on health policy, economic and regulation. Prerequisite: Students must have an Associate in Science-Registered Nurse degree which included theoretical instruction and clinical application in medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric nursing; personal, family, and community health concepts; pharmacology and administration of medications; legal aspects of practice; interpersonal relationships and leadership skills; professional role and function; health teaching and counseling skills; and clinical experience in acute care, long-term care, and community settings.
