The English department offers remedial and basic composition courses that help students begin their college careers. English competency is required across many MCC programs and degrees. Composition courses teach students to write essays and research papers while developing critical thinking, communication, and information literacy skills. The department prepares students for successful transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Upper-level writing courses are also available for students pursuing writing careers or majors, including Creative Writing (ENG 222), Poetry Writing Seminar (ENG 223), and the Nature of Language (ENG 210).
