A survey course for students whose program of study does not require College Algebra or higher coursework. This course satisfies general education requirements, and is a prerequisite to Probability and Statistics (MATH-115 or BUS-105) and Math for Elementary Teachers (MATH-105). Topics covered include: financial mathematics, symbolic logic, probability and counting principles, voting, and apportionment methods, set theory and applications and applications of vertex-edge graphs. The history, language, and usefulness of mathematics will be emphasized throughout the course. Students will be expected to use routine algorithms and engage in critical thinking.
