Accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, this program prepares students to provide preventive dental hygiene care in dental offices, clinics, and healthcare institutions. Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) work as part of the dental health team, providing oral health screenings, treatment and maintenance appointments, nutritional counseling, fluoride and sealant application, and radiographic techniques. Admission is competitive and selective, based on a point system. High school preparation in biology and chemistry is recommended; physics and geometry are also suggested.
Prerequisites: Admitted to Mott Community College and declared intent to enter the dental hygiene program, ATI TEAS at overall Proficient Level or higher (all sections: Reading, Mathematics, Science, English & Language Usage); taken at MCC in no more than 2 attempts, College-level reading: ACCUPLACER placement within last 3 years, OR ACT reading score ≥20 within last 5 years, OR satisfactory grade in RDNG 030 or ENGL 100 within last 5 years, Math proficiency: ACCUPLACER placement into Math 130 or higher within last 5 years, OR Math 120 (or higher) with grade of 2.0 or higher, Verification of 8 hours of observation of a dental hygienist, High school transcript or GED and any college transfer transcripts, 2 of 4 science courses (BIOL 151, BIOL 152, BIOL 156, CHEM 118) completed with 3.0 or better within last 5 years prior to applying, Minimum overall college GPA of 2.8; minimum 2.0 in ENGL 101, ENGL 102, COMM 131, PSYC 281, and SOCY 191, All transfer credits from an accredited institution, Dental Hygiene Application submitted by January 31st, Acceptable criminal background check by July 1st (no felony within last 15 years; misdemeanor review per State statute), Current CPR card: BLS Health Care Provider (American Heart Association) or Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross)
