This course will introduce the student to the needs of the surgical patient, with a focus on the special needs patient care concept, which includes adult, pediatric, geriatric, and bariatric patients. Discussion will also include types of consents, transportation and transfer of the surgical patient, preoperative patient routines, positioning, safety issues, and death and dying will be included.
