This course initiates the foundational theoretical knowledge of clinical dental hygiene concepts for performing dental hygiene care. Theoretical concepts introduced include clinical policy/procedure, maintaining a safe and aseptic work environment, equipment maintenance, taking medical/dental histories and vital signs, performing intra- and extra-oral exam techniques, patient assessment instruments and techniques, scaling instruments and techniques, stain removal equipment and techniques, fluoride application, patient education, documentation, and evidence-based dental hygiene concepts.
