(formerly ATT 140) A study of the chemical and physical properties of materials used in industry and commerce and the related manufacturing processes and usage. Basic concepts of matter and energy; the atomic theory; laws of moving particles, water and solutions and the families of elements; nuclear and organic chemistry as related to industrial use and a survey of minerals, ores, and metals constitute the text material. Lectures are related to industrial and commercial problems in production, distribution, safety, and pollution control. (2 billable contact hrs)
