This course examines the role of physical activity, exercise, and lifestyle behaviors in promoting health and preventing disease. Emphasis is placed on the physiological, psychological, and behavioral foundations of wellness with a strong focus on exercise science principles. Students will explore how regular physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and behavior modification influence cardiovascular health, body composition, mental well-being, and disease risk across the lifespan. Topics include cardiovascular disease, exercise prescription, weight management, nutrition, stress and mental health, cancer prevention, substance use, sexuality and reproductive health, infectious and non-infectious diseases, personal safety, and end-of-life issues. Through an exercise science lens, students will learn how to assess health risks and apply evidence-based strategies to improve individual and community wellness. Prerequisites: None
