The Kirtland Regional Police Academy provides aspiring officers with the education and practical skills necessary for a career in policing. Over 17 weeks of training, students cover criminal law, investigative techniques, physical fitness, firearms training, defensive tactics, and ethics. The program exceeds state of Michigan basic academy requirements and utilizes state-of-the-art simulators and live fire target systems to prepare students for real-world demands including emergency response and public safety.
Prerequisites: Associate degree or higher, Completion of Kirtland Criminal Justice Pre-Service degree prerequisites, Completion of coursework through a partnering 3+1 college, Employment by and sponsorship by a police or sheriff’s department, Military Police Educational Waiver from MCOLES, Meet Employment Standards for Michigan Law Enforcement Officers, MCOLES pre-enrollment Physical Fitness test results, MCOLES pre-enrollment Reading/Writing test results, CPR/AED certification
