DEH 1720 — Preventive Dentistry

This is a one-hour credit course designed to introduce the stu- dent to the practice and philosophy of preventive dentistry. The student will learn the roles of the dental hygienist, meth- ods of dental biofilm control, formation of tooth deposits, stains, and dental caries, oral physiotherapy, inter dental care, oral health care products and the use of fluorides and sealants. Proper communication and behavior modification skills are emphasized to facilitate the role of the dental hygienist as an educator.
