MTH113 is an introductory course in statistics designed for students studying fields where statistical investigations are necessary. Students will achieve statistical literacy by interpretating and evaluating statistical results in the context of real-world solutions. Broad topics include descriptive statistics, linear regression, basic probability theory, and inferential statistics. Specific topics include using statistical software, the organization of raw data sets, the numerical and graphical description of data sets, frequency distributions, measures of center and spread, bivariate data and least squares regression, correlation, random variables, basic probability distributions, sampling, confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, and chi-square tests.
