This course covers Western Civilization from 1750 to the present. Topics include the Enlightenment and changes which led to the French Revolution and how it influenced the western world; the intellectual, cultural, social, and political changes in the 19th century as Europe came to dominate much of the world; the crises of the first half of the twentieth century, such as the world wars and the depression; the rise of the Soviet Union; and the post-World War II period with the rise of the welfare state, the Cold War, decolonization, and the collapse of the communist world.
