Targets functional language ability in French at the Novice-Mid level as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines across all modes of communication (presentational, interpretive, interpersonal).Introduces basic grammatical structures and vocabulary of modern spoken and written French and to correct pronunciation patterns by means of oral-aural practice, small group interaction, reading of simple texts, and written exercises. Introduces certain aspects of francophone culture and to the differences between the French and the English languages. Requires supplemental (outside of class) listening, reading, speaking, and writing using ancillary materials and the textbook’s Internet site.
