3 credits · 3 hours

This comprehensive professional development course equips instructors with foundational knowledge and practical strategies to create classroom environments where all students can thrive. Participants will explore the concepts of belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion within their individual teaching contexts. Through examination of social identities, implicit bias, and cultural humility, instructors will learn to challenge micro-aggressions, engage students’ prior knowledge and cultural capital, and build meaningful relationships that support student success. Additionally, participants will apply course concepts through a practical project using assessment tools with pre- and post-reflection, culminating in a personalized professional development plan for ongoing growth in equity-centered teaching practices. Credit may be earned in either EDU 381 or EDU 382 but not both.
