MTE 2062C — Marine Corrosion & Corrosion Prevention

3 credits · 3 hours

Basic theory of galvanic, electrolysis, fatigue, biological, cavitation and chemical corrosion. The zinc sacrificial and the impressed current commercial corrosion control systems are demonstrated. Composition, structure, application and evaluation of commercial classes of protective coatings for metals, proper metal preparation, and coating application are covered. New corrosion laboratory has an extensive collection of marine corrosion examples for demonstration. Students are given individual projects on several different metals and coating materials.
